Binary

Manual binaries are a good fit when you already have a local service manager or host-level backup strategy and want to place the data directory yourself.

On Linux and macOS, download the archive for your operating system from the latest release, extract it, and run the binary:

./scryer

On Windows, install the MSI through Winget or download and run the matching .msi installer from the latest release. For a portable or manually managed setup, use the ZIP archive instead and run scryer.exe.

Open http://localhost:8080.

Keep the data directory on persistent storage — it holds your config, database, and logs. Do not place it inside a temp folder or the same directory as the binary. By default Scryer creates the data directory next to the binary; move or symlink it to persistent storage before adding titles.

Upgrading

Portable binaries and the direct MSI upgrade from inside the app. When a new release is available, a banner offers Upgrade now, and the same button lives under Application upgrade on the System page. Scryer verifies the signed release, swaps the binary, keeps a backup, and restarts. See In-App Upgrade for what happens and when the button is unavailable.

To upgrade by hand instead, stop Scryer, replace the binary from the latest release, and start Scryer again with the same data directory.
